Scotland fails to advance past the group stage of the Euro for the first time, Andrew Robertson shared his thoughts about his team change

Both Scotland and Hungary knew that a draw would eliminate both teams from Euro 2024. However, the match played out quite evenly as both teams played too cautiously and did not dare to attack boldly. Scotland had more of an advantage, having already secured 1 point against Switzerland and needing just one more win to almost certainly advance past the group stage.

In the end, the victory went to Hungary with a goal in the 10th minute of injury time. This result left Scotland at the bottom of Group A, officially eliminating them from Euro 2024. After the match, Scotland’s captain Robertson expressed his regret:

Andrew Robertson saddened by Scotland’s early elimination

“Thank you to the fans, we feel everyone behind us. We are excited to be heading home soon. Sorry for letting you down. Unfortunately, it will be a long time before we get over this sadness. This is really tough for the Scotland team.

In international competitions, sometimes the team loses players and similar issues arise, and we’ll see what happens with that. Tonight’s match was really tough. Scotland’s loss to Hungary is irreparable. All the players are disappointed, but what we need to do now is to quickly lift our spirits and stand up again.”
