Marc Cucurella revealed that he has been in contact with Cole Palmer and hopes his Chelsea teammate will be on the bench for the Euro 2024 final between Spain and England.
The left-back openly shared his wish, stating that he hopes his Chelsea teammate Palmer will be benched in the Euro 2024 final between Spain and England on the early morning of July 15th. Cucurella emphasized, “I spoke with Palmer over a week ago. We’ve had exchanges in the previous rounds. For me, it would be better if he doesn’t play and sits on the bench.”
After a challenging season at Chelsea, Cucurella has become an essential player for the Spanish national team at Euro 2024. He has participated in most of the national team’s matches, helping Spain reach the final.
In the semifinals, Cucurella shone in the victory against France, contributing to Spain’s six consecutive wins and making them the top contenders for the championship after a 12-year wait.
Meanwhile, Palmer has mostly come off the bench for Chelsea and made his mark with a crucial assist to Ollie Watkins in the semifinal against the Netherlands. Cucurella believes Palmer’s absence on the field would be beneficial for the Spanish team.
When asked if coach Luis de la Fuente had asked him to provide information about the English players, Cucurella responded that they had discussed it briefly and that De la Fuente could consult Rodri, who is more familiar with English football.
While Cucurella has been shining at Euro 2024, he became the target of boos and jeers during the semifinal between Spain and France in Munich. Initially, many thought it was the displeasure of French fans, but it was later discovered that the boos came from neutral German fans. They were venting their frustration after Cucurella escaped punishment for a handball incident in the quarterfinals.
When asked about his reaction, Cucurella said, “At first, I was a bit surprised, but then I saw many people in white shirts and understood why they were acting that way. The important thing is that we made it to the final.”
This week, Cucurella’s girlfriend revealed that he promised to dye his hair bright red if Spain wins against England at the Olympiastadion. He humorously responded, “If we win… I can’t play the final with red hair.”
Cucurella and the Spanish team are heading into the decisive match with great confidence and hope, aiming to bring home the Euro 2024 championship. The match between Spain and England will take place at 8:00 PM on July 14th, UK time.
