Ten Hag supports: “Rashford will score more goals after being dropped from the England national team.”
2 min readErik ten Hag supports Marcus Rashford using his exclusion from the England national team squad as ‘fuel’ and asserts that the Manchester United forward is highly motivated ahead of the FA Cup final against Man City.
Beforehand, Marcus Rashford was not included in Gareth Southgate’s preliminary squad for Euro 2024 this week. But Erik ten Hag believes that his player will react appropriately.
The Dutch coach admitted that even a victory against the reigning Premier League champions, Man City, would not compensate for the team’s dismal season, with Man Utd enduring their worst season since 1990 (finishing 8th in the Premier League) and losing 14 matches, a record in the Premier League era.
“No, but it’s the FA Cup final, it’s a big occasion, and we’re there, even in a season that hasn’t gone as we wanted, we’re there,” he said in the pre-match press conference.
“We have an opportunity, and it’s never easy, but we have to grasp it and we will do that, we have to believe like we did last season, as we have frequently done against strong opponents, we play our best football and I expect that again on Saturday.”
Ten Hag supports Rashford: “He looks okay. It’s a career, ups and downs can add more motivation and that’s what I see in training, he’ll be highly motivated,” he told reporters.
“Let’s say with your feet, very smart, he’s had a great career, I’m sure he’ll overcome this and score more goals.”
Ten Hag also added that Harry Maguire will not recover from injury in time for the final but confirmed that Mason Mount, Victor Lindelof, and Anthony Martial will all be available.
The 53-year-old coach also affirmed his calmness about his future despite rumors of his impending dismissal. “I have nothing to say. I’m just focused on the job at hand, and first of all, we have to win the game on Saturday before moving on to the future project.”
