Gianluigi Buffon believes it’s beneficial that Italy is being underrated at EURO 2024 and asserts there should be no controversy regarding the call-up of Juventus defender Nicolo Fagioli after his suspension.

Italy’s team under Spalletti is preparing very well. Former goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is currently a member of Luciano Spalletti’s coaching staff, assuming the role previously held by Gianluca Vialli during the successful EURO 2020 campaign when Italy clinched the European Championship.

At Euro 2024, despite being the defending champions, Italy is considered weaker compared to its opponents, especially as they defend their title in Germany this summer.

“I think the Nazionale has a lot of value, and being underestimated in terms of what they can achieve, both as a team and individually, is a good thing. Sometimes being underrated in major tournaments can be good for Italy, and I hope it will be the case this time,” Buffon told RAI 2.

Italy faces a tough group, meeting Albania in their first match, followed by matches against Spain and Croatia, hoping to secure a spot in the knockout stages.

“That is certainly the toughest group at the Euros, but it will also be tough for our opponents. It’s a strength knowing that other teams fear us, as we are seen as one of the teams capable of high achievements.”

“History shows that anyone facing us will have to be fully focused. Ultimately, we are the title holders, even though we didn’t qualify for the World Cup. Everyone knows they will have to work harder to defeat us.”

The Italian national team under Spalletti is preparing very well

Spalletti has begun training today at Coverciano, experimenting with two different tactical systems, 4-2-3-1 and 3-4-2-1.

“Spalletti is trying to convey to the players key points regarding tactics, technique, behavior, and emotions. He also has a great staff who have spent 15 to 16 hours a day with the players. They will do everything to make the fans proud of us,” added Buffon.
