England forward Harry Kane has described the defeat in the Euro 2024 final against Spain as the most painful experience possible, admitting he was devastated after the final whistle.

England’s captain, Harry Kane, expressed his deep disappointment following the team’s 2-1 loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final. This defeat marks the second consecutive time England has failed to win the Euro final, dealing a significant blow to their ambitions in future tournaments.

In his post-match comments, Kane struggled to hide his anguish, saying, “Losing in a final is the hardest thing. We did so well to get back into the game but couldn’t capitalize on that momentum. We couldn’t keep the ball and were punished for it at the end. This is the biggest pain in a football match.”

Kane also reflected on the journey that led them to the final: “It’s been a tough road. We did really well to get here. We wanted this win for ourselves and for the fans who have believed in us all along.”

With no official decision made yet regarding the future of manager Gareth Southgate, Kane voiced his support for the 53-year-old coach: “We love the manager, but it’s his decision and now is not the time to talk about that. It’s up to him, he will think about it. Right now, we are just heartbroken.”

In the final, Kane did not make a significant impact and was substituted for Ollie Watkins. Explaining the decision, Southgate said, “Physically, it was a challenge for him. He came into the tournament with limited matches and didn’t reach the level we were hoping for. The games were demanding, and we thought Ollie’s freshness would help us press better and create pressure from behind. I think the substitutes did what we asked of them.”

In the Euro 2024 final, Nico Williams scored the opening goal for Spain early in the second half. However, Cole Palmer equalized for England with a superb finish. Just as the match seemed headed for extra time, Mikel Oyarzabal seized the opportunity to score the decisive goal, securing a 2-1 victory for Spain.
