Wayne Rooney named his biggest regret as a Euro 2024 commentator after his final appearance on BBC.

Wayne Rooney worked with BBC throughout the Euro 2024 group stage. He made his last appearance  on June 26 (UK time) in the final group stage match.

Rooney is a prominent figure on BBC due to his past experiences playing for the England national team in major tournaments, and he is beloved by fans for providing insightful views into the current England squad’s locker room.

Recently, speaking on the Football Daily podcast with Kelly Cates, Rooney mentioned one thing he deeply regrets not being able to do during his brief stint as a Euro 2024 commentator: “Yeah, everything’s been okay. Clearly, it’s different and new compared to what I’m used to.”

“I’ve done TV before but this is different, I’ve spent quite a bit of time here. Yeah, but I’m enjoying it a lot.””Unfortunately, I haven’t actually worked on any of England’s games to really share more and the ones I’ve been involved in haven’t been the best! But it’s been nice to spend some time here.”

Rooney wasn’t selected for either of the England matches BBC aired, instead it was Rio Ferdinand and Micah Richards.

Regarding his experience as an expert, Rooney added: “I’ve been involved in many tournaments over the last 20 years as a player, and now I’m on the other side looking at it from an expert’s point of view.”

“I’ve seen the difference and the back and forth between players and experts, so it’s a bit strange. But I think everything I’ve said is right, genuinely, players and coaches always try to be careful with their words but also want to be honest with what they say.”

“I’ll be flying home tomorrow. The boys [at Plymouth] are back on July 3rd so I’ll be home and heading straight to Plymouth.”

Rooney will begin the pre-season phase as the head coach of Plymouth after agreeing to take over the Championship side back in May.
