Tottenham players are consoled for not participating in Euro 2024
2 min readTottenham players, Pedro Porro received comforting messages from teammates and fans after not being named in the Spain national team’s preliminary squad for Euro 2024.
Yesterday afternoon (May 28), the Spain national team officially announced a preliminary squad of 29 players to prepare for Euro 2024 this summer. Fans were surprised as several players in top form this season were left out by coach Luis de La Fuente, with one of the biggest disappointments being right-back Pedro Porro.
In his first season under coach Ange Postecoglou, Pedro Porro was irreplaceable on both flanks for Tottenham Hotspur. His ability to perform well with both feet earned him a regular starting position in the team, contributing 4 goals and 7 assists as Tottenham finished 5th in the Premier League.
Upon learning that he was not included in Spain’s Euro 2024 squad, Pedro Porro expressed deep disappointment on his personal Instagram: “I was very excited about the possibility of representing my country at the Euros, but ultimately it won’t happen this year. I have respect and admiration for all the players who will defend our colors. Even though I won’t be on the field, I will still cheer wholeheartedly for the team and hope for great achievements. Come on, guys.”
After the post was shared, Porro’s teammates commented to console Tottenham players.
Captain Son Heung-min wrote: “You’re the best, Porro.”
Defender Micky van de Ven offered brief encouragement with a heart emoji.
Meanwhile, Spurs fans also reacted to the decision.
One fan said: “Terrible decision. He had a fantastic season though.”
Another affirmed: “Anyway, Spain won’t go far.”
A third fan expressed frustration: “Can’t believe Cucurella got called up but not Porro.”
For Spain, they will play two friendly matches against Andorra and Northern Ireland before finalizing their squad for Germany and their opening match against Croatia.
