Former Real Madrid Player Wants Toni Kroos to Retire Early
2 min readToni Kroos is a key player that Spain needs to pay special attention to in their Euro 2024 quarterfinal match against host Germany.
Spanish forward Joselu Mato recently gave a humorous interview ahead of the quarterfinal clash with Germany at Euro 2024.
“I like Toni a lot, but I think the match on the 6th will be the last time he laces up his boots. Toni is a good friend of mine from Madrid, we talk a lot and he gives me a lot of advice. Toni is an integral part of both the German national team and Real Madrid, but we hope this will be his last match, and we’ll help him retire,” Joselu shared.
The player, who recently left Real Madrid to join Al Gharafa (Qatar), also gave detailed insights into the excellence and importance of Toni Kroos to “Die Mannschaft.”
“We know his capabilities. Toni is a key player for Germany, but we can’t just focus on him. They are a very strong team, especially in attack.
Whenever Germany controls the ball, it always gets passed to Toni. We need to have plans for Toni to prevent Germany from playing their game.”
Responding to Joselu’s statements, Toni Kroos said:
“Joselu says that because he wants to win. I understand Spain wants to reach the semifinals, but I think we have the ability to stop them. This promises to be an exciting match, not boring at all. What Joselu said is really funny.”
Speaking further about the opponent, Kroos added:
“I always think it’s good when coaches and players have the confidence to say something like that. I see it differently, but I like that they have that confidence. They just need to show it in the next match. But I see this match as 50-50.
We are two very strong teams. Everything will be decided in the details. I have nothing to criticize about Spain. They play well.”
Germany and Spain will create the highlight match of the Euro quarterfinals this year. Both teams have been in excellent form in their past matches, with star players capable of changing the game’s outcome and are strong contenders for the championship.
Spain is slightly favored, but Germany will use their home advantage to put psychological pressure on the opponent.
The match between Spain and Germany in the Euro 2024 quarterfinals will take place at 5:00 PM tomorrow (July 5th) UK time.
