Gareth Southgate will be knighted if he wins Euro 2024.
2 min readCoach Gareth Southgate is on the verge of a great honor after leading the England team to success in major tournaments.
According to The Telegraph, coach Gareth Southgate is set to receive a special honor at the end of England’s journey at Euro 2024.
If Southgate leads England to victory in Euro 2024, he is likely to be knighted—a prestigious title granted by the British Royal Family to recognize significant contributions to the development of the United Kingdom.
The newspaper also suggests that even if Southgate does not win Euro 2024, there is still a strong chance he could be knighted in the future.
Currently, Gareth Southgate holds the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire), which is the fourth level out of five in the hierarchy of honors awarded by the British Royal Family. This is already a significant recognition for the 53-year-old coach, but being knighted would be an even greater acknowledgment of Southgate’s contributions to English football.
Football fans in Vietnam are familiar with names like Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Bobby Charlton, and Sir Bobby Robson, and it’s possible that soon we will add Sir Gareth Southgate to that list.
Gareth Southgate is one of the most successful coaches in English football history, second only to Sir Alf Ramsey, who led “The Three Lions” to World Cup victory in 1966 with players like Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, the Charlton brothers, and Gordon Banks. The 2018 World Cup was the first major tournament Southgate managed England, and since then, the 53-year-old coach has consistently guided his team to at least the quarter-finals.
Southgate’s pinnacle achievement with England has been reaching the Euro finals twice in a row: Euro 2020 and Euro 2024. Such remarkable achievements make him a worthy candidate for knighthood from the British Royal Family.
Another name from this year’s England squad who might also receive recognition is captain Harry Kane. Currently, Kane holds the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire), the lowest level of honor, but if England wins the championship, it is highly likely that Kane will be awarded the OBE.
