Luis Figo: “Portugal has the capability to win Euro 2024”
2 min readLegendary Portuguese national team player Luis Figo affirmed that the European Selecao is very confident in winning Euro 2024.
Portugal will kick off this campaign with a match against the Czech Republic on Wednesday, June 19, and it’s very clear that Roberto Martinez’s squad is considered one of the top potential champions. Figo affirmed that this is due to the perfect combination of youth and experience.
“Portugal has a strong squad, with a good balance between experienced players and young talents starting to assert themselves at the international level.”
“Like the World Cup, matches and situations will unfold in small moments, so it’s very difficult to predict, but Portugal is one of five or six teams entering the tournament with the confidence that they can win, and why not? I’m really excited to see how far they can go.”
“Portuguese football has a bright future. The current generation of players is extremely talented, and through the great efforts of academies across the country, we have obtained a truly talented and consistent pool of young players,” Figo added.
Figo, 51, was part of Portugal’s Golden Generation and also played 18 years internationally, earning 127 caps for the national team.
Portugal currently boasts top players such as Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Joao Felix, Pedro Neto, Joao Palhinha, and of course, Cristiano Ronaldo. The former Real Madrid star also said that representing Portugal is a highlight of his career, and he is sure that the current players will have a similar sense of pride.
