On the evening of July 18 (local time), Man City announced that they have successfully signed winger Savinho. The 20-year-old player is the first signing of The Cityzens this summer ahead of the 2024/25 season.
According to The Guardian, the Etihad Stadium club spent €30.8 million to acquire the Brazilian player. Savinho’s contract is valid until 2029.
Savinho had an excellent season on loan at Girona last season, helping the Spanish club qualify for the Champions League for the first time in history.
He scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists to help the Catalonian club finish third, behind Real Madrid and Barcelona.
In March 2024, he was called up to the national team for the first time and debuted at Wembley in a 1-0 victory against England. Savinho was part of Dorival Junior’s squad for Copa America 2024. He scored his first goal for Brazil in a 4-1 win over Paraguay.
**Full name Savio Moreira de Oliveira, he was born in Sao Mateus and joined Atletico Mineiro as a youth. He debuted for the team in September 2020 at the age of 16 in a match against Atletico Goianiense.
In total, Savinho made 35 appearances for the Brazilian team and scored 2 goals, including one against Independiente in the Copa Libertadores.
After joining Troyes, he was loaned to Dutch club PSV Eindhoven for the 2022/23 season before having a successful season at Girona.
Savinho, also known as Savio, said in a statement on Man City’s official website: “I am very happy to join Manchester City, the Premier League and Club World Cup champions. Everyone knows they are the best team in the world right now, so being here is very exciting for me.”
