Recently, Arsenal’s 26-player squad arrived in Los Angeles to kick off their pre-season tour for the 2024/25 season, where they will play friendly matches against Bournemouth, Manchester United, and Liverpool.
Several of Arsenal’s top stars, including Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale, David Raya, and William Saliba, are missing from the tour as they have just finished Euro 2024 and are expected to rest until the new season begins. Additionally, Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney are absent due to injuries.
In a recent interview, manager Mikel Arteta provided an update on Tomiyasu’s injury, describing it as “incredible.”
Arteta told Metro, “It’s incredible because he always trains very hard, and the medical team still cannot determine the exact severity of the injury—it’s a complex case.”
“To prevent any worst-case scenarios, we decided not to include him in the summer tour squad and to provide special treatment to see what happens. It could take a few weeks to resolve.”
Additionally, young center-back Jurrien Timber is hopeful of making it into the starting lineup as his injury situation improves, having missed nearly the entire 2023/24 season.
Arteta also provided an update on the Dutch defender: “He’s a winner. You can see that in his body language, how he acts. He has been working very hard to get back quickly.”
“I’m quite impressed with how he’s managed and used his time effectively because recovery work is not easy and takes a lot of time. The players are highly motivated by that energy, which is very exciting.”
“A young leader, he likes to show that at all times. His talent and technique are continually improving, and he will be an outstanding addition to Arsenal for the upcoming season.”
