Pedri thanks Kroos after exiting Euro 2024
2 min readPedri shared his thoughts after having to leave Euro 2024 due to injury, and the Barcelona star also took the time to thank Toni Kroos.
Spanish midfielder Pedri confirmed that his journey in Euro 2024 has come to an end. Despite maintaining peak form for a long time, his career has been plagued by injuries over the past two seasons.
Although he performed excellently for Spain under coach Luis de la Fuente, Pedri suffered another injury after a foul by Germany’s Toni Kroos, which will require a long-term recovery.
Following this unfortunate incident, Pedri posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, saying: “I came to Germany for Euro 2024 and I will stay here until the end. Because the dream, make no mistake, will continue.”
He also expressed his gratitude for the support from teammates and fans: “The support from the fans and from all of you has been amazing. The toughest moment has passed, and the path to recovery now begins, so I can soon regain my full strength with Barcelona.”
Pedri responded to Kroos’s apology, saying: “Thank you, Toni Kroos, for your message. This is football, and these things can happen. Your career and achievements will live on forever.”
Pedri’s absence will be a significant challenge for coach Luis de la Fuente as he looks to rebuild Spain’s system for the crucial semifinal match against France at Allianz Arena in Munich. Dani Olmo, who replaced Pedri in the first half of the previous match, is likely to be included in the starting lineup against Les Bleus.
Pedri will certainly miss the crucial preseason period with Barcelona as they prepare for life under new coach Hansi Flick. It is expected that he will not return in time for Barcelona’s La Liga campaign, which starts on August 18. Additionally, midfielder Gavi, who also suffered a knee injury while playing for Spain in November last year, will also be absent.
