In a surprise move early this morning (May 22), Chelsea fans were stunned as the club announced the sacking of manager Pochettino. The surprise lies in the fact that Pochettino led Chelsea to a perfect winning streak in the final matches of the season, securing a 6th place finish and the opportunity to participate in European competition next season.
Therefore, after being sacked by PSG, Pochettino once again faces bitterness in his career as he departs from the London club in similar circumstances. However, according to sources from The Sun, the Argentine manager could make an immediate return to the Premier League as Manchester United is planning to welcome him at Old Trafford.
Current Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, is also under heavy criticism for leading MU to an 8th place finish in the Premier League in the 2023/24 season, one of the club’s worst performances in history. In the event that MU loses to Manchester City in the FA Cup final, it is highly likely that Ten Hag will have to depart, and his replacement by Pochettino could very well occur.
This isn’t the first time former Chelsea manager has been linked with managing Manchester United. Back in 2022, when the Premier League club appointed Ten Hag from Ajax, Pochettino was one of the favorites for the job but ultimately missed out on the opportunity.
Former Chelsea manager, admired by Manchester United owner Ratcliffe, is known to have spoken in the past about the job at Nice, where INEOS is also the owner.
In addition to Former Chelsea manager, Graham Potter, Roberto De Zerbi, Thomas Tuchel, and Gareth Southgate have all been linked with moves to Manchester United. However, in terms of both experience and salary issues, Pochettino is highly regarded for leading the Red Devils.
