2 min readAfter joining the national team training with Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo takes on the role of goalkeeper in a special event with young fans.
Ronaldo took to his social media to share images from the special event with young fans at the national team’s training facility. The 39-year-old superstar enthusiastically captioned: “A special day for everyone.”
During this event, Ronaldo and his teammates engaged in interactions with young fans, signing autographs, and participating in on-field activities. In a unique twist, CR7 transformed into a goalkeeper to block shots from the young fans.
After these images surfaced on social media, fans expressed great excitement at seeing Ronaldo standing in goal. Many lightheartedly commented, “Ronaldo is the greatest goalkeeper in the history of Portuguese football.”
Returning to the preparation process of the Portuguese national team ahead of EURO 2024, Roberto Martinez’s squad recently suffered a 1-2 defeat against Croatia in a friendly match. This was the second consecutive match in which Cristiano Ronaldo was absent from the squad.
It is expected that the 39-year-old superstar may return to the starting lineup in the final friendly match against Ireland on June 12. Currently, Ronaldo is believed to be in peak physical and mental condition after a period of rest. Despite his age, the 1985-born superstar is still considered the leader of the Portuguese national team in this tournament.
For Ronaldo personally, EURO 2024 is viewed as potentially his final European Championship in his career. Currently holding the record for appearances in five EURO tournaments (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020), CR7 only needs to step onto the field in this year’s tournament to extend his record further.
In the EURO 2024 group stage, Portugal is placed in Group F alongside Czech Republic, Georgia, and Turkey. Portugal will kick off their campaign against Czech Republic on June 19 at 2:00 AM. Subsequently, Ronaldo and his teammates will face Turkey on June 22 and Georgia on June 27.
