The dual injury concern for the England national team arose after Declan Rice and Kieran Trippier missed training ahead of their Euro 2024 Round of 16 match against Slovakia.

The team is sweating over the fitness of Declan Rice and Kieran Trippier. According to reports from The Sun, these two stars were absent from the training session along with the rest of the team before the Slovakia match in the Round of 16.

Phil Foden also missed the training session but due to personal reasons as he was flying home for the birth of his child.

Rice and Trippier skipped training to undergo their individual programs. Arsenal midfielder has been a regular starter for England since his call-up from West Ham.

Manager Gareth Southgate faced difficulties in finding a partner for Rice in midfield and hasn’t yet found a replacement plan if Rice isn’t fit to play. Southgate may now rely on Adam Wharton or Kobbie Mainoo to replace Rice in the defensive midfield position. In the draw against Slovenia, the 53-year-old coach chose Rice and Conor Gallagher as the midfield pair.

Meanwhile, Luke Shaw may step in to alleviate Trippier’s potential injury against Slovakia. The Manchester United defender confirmed his readiness to play after missing the entire group stage.

Trippier filled in at left-back during Shaw’s absence but received criticism for his poor performance at Euro 2024. Shaw is the only pure left-back in the Three Lions squad as Southgate declined to call up other names.

England will face Slovakia in the Round of 16 match at 15:00 on June 30th (Vietnam time). If they advance past Slovakia, Southgate’s squad will meet Italy or Switzerland in the quarter-finals. However, they have avoided the tough side of the bracket, which includes France, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, and Spain, until the final.
