According to comments made by coach Carlo Ancelotti to reporters, he and Real Madrid fans still hope that Toni Kroos will reconsider his decision to retire.

Toni Kroos played his final match for Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final of 2023/24. The German midfielder has decided to retire from professional football following the conclusion of EURO 2024.

Winning the Champions League title in 2023/24 with Real Madrid was a fitting end to Toni Kroos’s illustrious career. The 1990-born star has amassed 6 Champions League titles in total (5 with Real Madrid and 1 with Bayern Munich), alongside Luka Modric and Dani Carvajal.

Speaking to the media about his retirement decision, Toni Kroos openly stated: “As I have always said, Real Madrid is and will be the last club in my career. I am happy and proud that I have found the right moment for my decision and that I could make it on my own. My ambition was to end my career at its peak.”

However, after the UEFA Champions League final in 2023/24, coach Carlo Ancelotti revealed to reporters that he has not given up hope of persuading Toni Kroos to reconsider his retirement decision. The Italian manager said:

“I am truly grateful to Kroos. He has reached the highest position, there is nothing higher than that. He has had a glorious career and is a legend at this club. All fans appreciate Kroos for his attitude and professionalism. I have told Kroos that we are waiting for him to change his mind – we are waiting for Toni Kroos.”

Carlo Ancelotti’s desire to keep Toni Kroos is entirely understandable, given the midfielder’s immense contributions to Real Madrid. Over 10 years of dedication, Toni Kroos has made 465 appearances across all competitions, scoring 28 goals and providing 99 assists. Additionally, the 1990-born star has been an indispensable core in Real Madrid’s journey to conquer 23 major and minor titles.
